Volkspark Potsdam – The green heart of the Bornstedt Field

city life
North of the city center lies Potsdam's newest park, the Volkspark. From the 18th century onward, the Bornstedter Feld, where the park is located, was primarily used as a military training ground. During the 2001 Federal Garden Show (BUGA), the landscape was redesigned, resulting in the BUGA Park, now known as the Volkspark. Among herb gardens and flowerbeds, water features and barbecue areas, there are numerous opportunities for activity. Skating, jogging, flying kites, disc golf, climbing, mini-golf, rolling down the embankments, or simply strolling – the Volkspark combines nature, sport, and play like nowhere else in the city.

Volkspark Potsdam – The green heart of the Bornstedt Field

In autumn, the Volkspark attracts visitors not only with its remarkable autumn foliage, but also with a diverse program of events. The International Kite Festival, the Potsdam Environmental Festival, and the Apple and Autumn Festival are complemented by a variety of guided tours: these include, for example, fascinating "bee whispering," introductions to medicinal plants, and mysterious insights into the world of trees.

The water playground near the Großer Wiesenpark offers plenty of space for energetic play. On warm autumn days, the large pool with wooden rafts, the water-spouting fish, and the tall lighthouse beckon with exciting adventures. For a relaxing break, stop by "Das Haus im Park" right next to the water playground. Here you'll find ice cream and delicious breakfasts, as well as homemade cakes and coffee from the Potsdam Espressonisten.

In the heart of the Volkspark, three authentic Kyrgyz yurts invite you to another world. In Nomadenland, the nomadic way of life becomes a truly authentic experience. A visit is worthwhile any time of year, as events take place throughout the year. Here you can be enchanted by magical fairy tales, enjoy hot tea from a samovar, or experience nature in a special way on a goat trek. The yurts can also be booked for private events such as children's birthday parties.

Furthermore, the Volkspark offers a place where a holiday atmosphere prevails year-round thanks to tropical temperatures – the Biosphere Potsdam. This jungle-like landscape is home to approximately 20.000 magnificent tropical plants and around 140 different animal species. Winding paths lead to the butterfly house and the underwater world of the Aquasphere, culminating in the elevated walkway that winds through the canopies of trees reaching up to 14 meters in height. The Biosphere is a natural wonderland, a place of learning, a sensory experience. A variety of guided tours, workshops, children's and family programs, and the sumptuous tropical brunch buffet complete the offerings.
