Sisters Martine and Philippa live a modest and devout life on the Bervelaag Fjord in Norway. Only once has each of them caught a glimpse of the world beyond the fjord. But that was long ago. One day, the wider world appears at their doorstep – in the form of Babette Hersant, a Frenchwoman who fled Paris during the Civil War and came to them on their recommendation. The sisters take her into their home as a cook. When Babette unexpectedly comes into a large sum of money, she has only one wish: to host a lavish feast! Reluctantly, they grant her wish, unaware of the culinary delights that await them.

Gabriele Blum and Bettina Mros musically and vocally transport the audience to a cold, barren environment that unexpectedly experiences the splendor of a miracle...

The Danish author Karen Blixen (1885-1962), also known under her pseudonyms Tania Blixen and Isak Dinesen, first published this story in 1958 in a collection titled "Fateful Anecdotes." In 1987, "Babette's Feast" was adapted into a film in Denmark and won, among other awards, the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
