The Soviet remand prison Leistikowstraße

More than seven decades after its conversion into the central remand prison for the Soviet secret service, the building on Leistikowstrasse retains a hauntingly authentic character. A tour of the permanent exhibition, featuring compelling exhibits and historical photographs, reveals the building's eventful history. The tour focuses on the biographies of former German and Soviet prisoners. Audio and media stations offer the opportunity to learn more about arrests, interrogations, and daily life in prison through eyewitness accounts. Finally, the stark basement cells and numerous preserved prisoner inscriptions bear witness to the despair and disenfranchisement of those incarcerated there.
