The Three Musketeers - Sanssouci Summer Theatre Festival
With his novel "The Three Musketeers," which Alexandre Dumas published serially in the French newspaper "Le Siècle" in 1844, the author achieved worldwide fame. The story of the four friends' adventures was soon adapted for the stage and, since the 20s, for film. The exciting plot set in the historical context of pre-revolutionary France, the nuanced characters, the fast-paced fight scenes, and the memorable, sometimes sharply witty dialogue have since lent themselves to highly entertaining theatrical spectacles.
In the Poetenpack Theatre's adaptation, the story of D'Artagnan is told, who leaves sleepy, provincial Gascony for the heart of the nation, Paris. There, in politically turbulent times, he intends to fight as a musketeer on the side of King Louis XIII against the scheming machinations of Cardinal Richelieu and his mysterious spy, Lady de Winter.
