Queen Brunhild is powerful, beautiful, and unmarried, for she challenges every suitor to a life-or-death struggle. When the Burgundian king Gunther first hears of her, he is instantly captivated. The dragon-slayer Siegfried is to help subdue Brunhild—in return, he will be allowed to marry Gunther's sister Kriemhild. But when the affair comes to light, Siegfried is murdered by Hagen. A bloody spiral of violence begins.
