The Strength of Law vs. the Law of the Strongest: A Plea for International Law and Human Rights

  • reading / lecture

Global crises pose a challenge to international law. What role does it still play today? This question arises in light of events such as Russia's attack on Ukraine, Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent escalation of the Middle East conflict, as well as the Israeli and US attack on Iran.

In his latest book, lawyer Wolfgang Kaleck argues that international law should not be up for debate. Despite all the upheavals and setbacks, it represents a major step forward on the path to a more just world. Together, we will discuss the current state of international law and the perspectives, defense strategies, and visions for its future.

Guest: Wolfgang Kaleck (Lawyer and Secretary General of the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR))
