Friedrich and Katte

Theater / Dance / Cabaret
A Prussian horror story

Why did Katte have to die?
He was a childhood friend of Crown Prince Frederick and became a scapegoat. His execution on the orders of King Frederick William I in the presence of the Crown Prince is one of the darkest chapters in Prussian history.
As Katte becomes embroiled in a relentless father-son conflict and the machinations of European politics, the musically gifted Crown Prince is transformed by this event and by brutal upbringing into a misanthropic cynic. In a time of crisis and the glorification of Prussian nationalist virtues, a look at history can offer a counterpoint to the drumbeat of right-wing forces.
