The charm of chance encounters lies in the fact that they usually bring together people who seem completely incompatible. Louise and Alexandre meet one evening and take a liking to each other. Both are well over fifty and still "open to flirting." But that's where it ends. Louise writes children's books and, after six years of marriage, has realized she's not suited for it. Alexandre, owner of a successful restaurant and father of three, is about to get a divorce.
As fate would have it, on the way home they arrange to meet for a drink upstairs at her place, and they spend the night together. The next morning brings a sobering reality: "Will we see each other again?" she asks. "Very soon," Alexandre replies vaguely. Louise hides the key – Alexandre is trapped in her apartment.
Thus begins a thoroughly amusing story. Middle-aged and shaped by very different experiences, both are clearly driven by a longing for a happy relationship. This doesn't happen without conflicts, countless misunderstandings, lies and revelations, and incredibly funny moments. Does the maturity of age make us more tolerant or more uncompromising? And is it even possible to change? Is their respective romantic past an asset – or rather a handicap? And do they still truly believe in 'true love'? Love and life as a couple: an equation that becomes less and less likely to work out with age, but perhaps this time it will.
