How did a small group of radical painters become one of the most popular art movements of the modern era? Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, and their Impressionist contemporaries not only changed the way we saw light and color, but also built a network of patrons, collectors, and dealers that made their works internationally famous. Supported by writers and new groups of buyers, Impressionism gained increasing importance and popularity.
The exhibition Networks of Impressionism: Artists, dealers, collectors The exhibition illuminates this network of relationships and shows how the movement was able to prevail. At the same time, it marks the tenth anniversary of the Museum Barberini and presents paintings from the Hasso Plattner Collection in dialogue with works from museum collections such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery, London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Musée d'Orsay, Paris, and the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo.
