Norman Tower: Fantastic views!
Special opening of the Norman Tower on the Ruinenberg
Under King Frederick William IV, the nearly 23-meter-high Norman Tower, modeled after a medieval watchtower, was built in 1846. It enhanced the already elaborate landscape design of the Ruinenberg (Ruins Hill) created by Frederick the Great: a water basin, built to supply the fountains in Sanssouci Park, surrounded by an artful arrangement of colossal columns, a Doric rotunda, a pyramid, and a ruined wall reminiscent of an ancient theater. The panoramic view from the Norman Tower encompasses a vista stretching from Peacock Island across Sanssouci Park to Werder.
