Babelsberg Palace: History Stories
Special guided tour with castle director Jens Straßburger-Asbeck, SPSG
The restored facades and terraces of Babelsberg Palace in Potsdam, the summer residence of Prince Wilhelm I and Emperor Augusta, attract many curious visitors every year. In September and October 2025, the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG) is offering special guided tours of Babelsberg Palace. Since the interior renovation is still pending, a small presentation featuring a few exhibits, some of which have never been shown before, will highlight three selected themes:
Traces from afar: Prussian-German foreign, colonial and trade policy in the Sulu Sea (now part of the Philippines) from the 1870s.
Traces of art protection: Babelsberg Palace, the Flatow Tower and the kitchen building were the largest storage depot of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Administration during the Second World War.
Traces in the castle rooms after 1945: To accommodate certain institutions in the post-war period, some original room shells in Babelsberg Castle were destroyed.
