Sunday tour: Italian royal dream and phoenix from the ashes

guided tour / tour
With the Belvedere Pfingstberg, Frederick William IV sought to fulfill his grand "Italian dream" in Potsdam. Inspired by Roman architecture, an imposing palace with panoramic views was built, which remained a popular destination for Potsdam and Berlin residents until after World War II. With the division of Germany after the war, the Pfingstberg complex suddenly found itself in the border zone of East Germany and fell into increasing disrepair. It was only through the dedication of young Potsdam residents in the late 1980s that the rescue of this unique site began.

A member of the Pfingstberg Support Association guides guests through the eventful history of Pfingstberg. Anecdotes, individual expertise, and personal experiences surrounding Karl Friedrich Schinkel's first work, the Pomona Temple, the Belvedere Palace (built according to plans by Frederick William IV), and the garden monument created by Peter Joseph Lenné are the focus of the tour.
