"Dream Factory. 100 Years of Film in Babelsberg"
Studio Babelsberg celebrated its 110th anniversary in 2022. More than 3000 feature films were produced there at Bioscop, UFA, DEFA, and Studio Babelsberg itself. The film factory has always been a factory of dreams. It produced films under five political systems, from the German Empire through the Weimar Republic, the Nazi era, and the GDR, right up to the globalization of the modern age. The permanent exhibition "Dream Factory: 100 Years of Film in Babelsberg" tells the story of the filmmaking process, from the initial idea to distribution. Once a producer is found, the casting, costume, makeup, and production design teams begin their work. Filming is followed by editing and sound design. When audiences celebrate, and the film becomes a success in cinemas, on television, or on streaming platforms, it wins awards.
Visitors discover valuable original exhibits and can interactively try out acting in a casting or editing a film, singing with Zarah Leander or rehearsing with the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg.
