The opening of Germaine Tailleferre's enchanting Concertino, performed by Swiss harpist Tjasha Gafner to conclude her debut season at the Nikolaisaal, evokes images of dancing snowflakes. Will the dream of a white Christmas come true this year? The Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra and Norwegian conductor Rune Bergmann are certainly doing their utmost to appease the weather gods. The captivating Commedia dell'arte ballet pantomime "The Snowman" by the then 11-year-old Erich Wolfgang Korngold is juxtaposed with Peter Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1, which conjures dreamlike images of silently gliding horse-drawn sleighs and frost patterns on windowpanes.
