Flatow Tower in Babelsberg Park

Observation towers
The Flatow Tower in Babelsberg Park was built between 1853 and 1856 according to plans by Johann Heinrich Strack, modeled after the medieval tower of the Eschenheimer Gate in Frankfurt am Main. Emperor Wilhelm I thus continued Potsdam's building tradition of erecting observation towers in prominent locations.

The 46-meter-high observation tower, built in the Neo-Gothic style, stands within a basin important for irrigating the park. The imperial couple used the building both as a guesthouse and as a repository for objects related to their personal collections. Visitors to this landmark of the Babelsberg gardens, visible from afar, can expect not only rooms with some original furnishings but also a unique view.
