For over 40 years, the Soviet KGB maintained an important Western outpost in Potsdam: the German headquarters of its military counterintelligence, the so-called "Military Town No. 7". A historical trail now makes the almost forgotten traces of this "forbidden city" visible again, located between the New Garden and Pfingstberg.
The centerpiece of the site was the central remand prison of the secret service, which today houses the Leistikowstraße Memorial and Meeting Place. At a total of 14 points, the historical trail provides information on the history and function of historical buildings, architectural relics, and surviving traces of the secret service town. A scale bronze model of the "military town" in the memorial's courtyard serves as the starting point for the tour.
The historical trail is 2,5 kilometers long and can easily be explored on foot or by bicycle. Information panels with texts and historical photographs provide insights into topics such as remaining sections of the security fortifications, a memorial, the former residence of the head of the secret service, and the former prison building. QR codes offer further information and photos of each location.
