Information panel: Birdwatching on the dike

Lake Fährland is part of the "Königswald with Havel Lakes and Seeburg Agricultural Landscape" protected landscape area. The lake itself is an important breeding ground, but above all a significant resting and wintering area for birds migrating from other regions. Sometimes hundreds or even thousands of waterfowl rest on the lake – as long as there is no disturbance from surfers or other watercraft. The shores of Lake Fährland are characterized by extensive reed beds, which support a number of specialized bird species. The meadows on the western shore are also valuable for birds, especially when shallow pools of water form in spring. Lapwings, for example, breed here, and geese and other migratory birds rest in the meadows. As part of the "Climate Moor" project, a water level increase is planned here, which will certainly benefit many bird species.
