Chamber building in Schiffbauergasse (today: Federal Foundation for Building Culture)

The brick building on Schiffbauergasse immediately catches the eye. The large glass facades on the ground and top floors lend the otherwise classic structure a modern architectural highlight. The building at Schiffbauergasse 3 was erected in 1905 on the site of the former barracks of the Life Guard Hussar Regiment and served as a warehouse. After 1945, it was used by a radio and logistics battalion of the Soviet KGB. From the mid-1990s, part of the management team of the Hans Otto Theater was located here. Following an architectural competition held by the Federal Foundation for Building Culture, the building underwent extensive energy-efficient renovation and modernization in 2009/10. In particular, the dilapidated roof structure was removed. Since the renovation, the Federal Foundation for Building Culture has used the former chamber building as its headquarters.
