Sowtscheck Colonist House (Weaving Museum)

In 1751/52, the Prussian King Frederick II had the colonist house built in the colony of Nowawes for religiously persecuted weavers and spinners. The first owner was Wentzel Sowtscheck from Bohemia. The weaver owned two looms and received the house as a royal gift.
Over the years, the colonist's house was repeatedly enlarged: a transverse hallway with a living room, a bedroom, and a kitchen were added. The Protestant church later renovated the building using old, almost forgotten construction techniques such as wattle and daub. The restoration of the building's exterior was funded by the Urban Heritage Conservation Program. Today, the weaver's house is used by the Protestant parish as a meeting place for young people, a fair trade shop, and a small museum with an exhibition on the history of Bohemian weavers.
