The New Palace was built between 1763 and 1769, making it the last palace Frederick the Great commissioned in Sanssouci Park. The building was intended to demonstrate Prussia's continued power and achievements after the Seven Years' War and is reminiscent of the grand palaces in France.
In contrast to the intimate and rather modest Sanssouci Palace, the New Palace served as a venue for official, representative occasions. The palace boasts 200 rooms. The Grotto Hall, the Marble Hall, and the Concert Hall are particularly impressive.
The Grotto Hall, adorned with the splendor of thousands of shells, quartz, and minerals, once captivated Frederick II's guests and can now be experienced once again. The Royal Apartments in the southeast wing, with their magnificent furnishings, are considered a highlight of Frederician interior design. They can be visited as part of a guided tour from April 1st to October 31st. The recently restored Lower Princes' Quarters are also a perfect example of the splendor of the era. With its Tresting Room, Concert Room, and Oval Cabinet, it showcases one of the most exquisite interiors in Europe.
The castle's location is also impressive. Situated at the end of the main avenue, it is visible throughout the entire park and is therefore the park's centerpiece.
