The Rechenzentrum (Computer Center) is a vibrant hub of artistic, (socio)cultural, and creative production and encounter in the heart of Potsdam. Completed in 1971, this former administrative building serves as a space for artists and creatives, social projects, events, and community – in short, Brandenburg's largest socio-creative center. The diversity of those working here and the uses of the spaces are as vast as the colorful hallways are long. In addition to individual studios, there are spaces available for communal use. Books, clothing, and food are rescued and exchanged in the distribution center. “Garrison Church as a place of learning” has a permanent exhibition, which reports critically on the reconstruction project of the Garrison Church and its right-wing extremist inscriptions.
On the facade of the computer center is the mosaic "Man Conquers the Cosmos" by the artist Fritz Eisel, created in 1972. It is one of the most famous works of art in Potsdam's public space. The 18-part mosaic addresses technological progress and the socialist society's foray into space.
