Display depot in the collection building of the Potsdam Film Museum
The Potsdam Film Museum's open storage facility, located in the collection building of the Babelsberg Media City, offers insights into over 100 years of German film history. Around 750 exhibits and 400 documents, including props, costumes, technical equipment, and models, are on display. The facility also provides a glimpse behind the scenes of the museum's collection work, from cataloging and conservation to the presentation of film-historical objects. Particular highlights include the Werner Nekes Collection with illusion media from the pre-invention era of film, as well as numerous set designs and special effects models. In addition, hands-on stations invite visitors to experience film technology and optical effects interactively. The open storage facility is aimed at film enthusiasts, academics, and students alike, demonstrating how film heritage is preserved and researched. Visits are possible in bookable time slots, and themed tours offer further insights.
