Spanning approximately twelve hectares, Schiffbauergasse combines cultural diversity with innovative businesses. What began as a barracks with riding halls and later housed, among other things, a steam laundry and a chicory mill, is today a creative quarter renowned far beyond Potsdam. Listed buildings such as the washhouse, the machine hall, and the former hussar stables have been restored and transformed into venues for art, culture, and business. Internationally operating companies are also part of the quarter. The Volkswagen Design Center, with its architecturally striking new building, and other companies located in the restored coke separator of the former gasworks, define Schiffbauergasse as a hub for work and creativity.
A waterfront park with a boat landing and marina, a promenade along the Tiefen See lake, and cycle paths between New Garden, Schiffbauergasse and Park Babelsberg make the location on the water and between the parks tangible.
