Southwest of Sanssouci lies the small Charlottenhof Palace, built in the Neoclassical style. It forms the architectural centerpiece of a park that was added to the 18th-century Sanssouci Park starting in 1826.
The art-loving Frederick William IV commissioned Karl Friedrich Schinkel in 1826 to transform his manor house into a neoclassical summer palace. This single-story masterpiece of Schinkel's architecture was complemented by an English garden, which also invited the king's wife to stroll and linger.
Currently, the castle can only be visited as part of a guided tour.
