Hans Otto Theatre open-air stage

The first open-air stage in Potsdam was inaugurated on June 1, 2019, at the foot of the Hans Otto Theater, with the Shakespearean spectacle "The Queen's Men." The platform for it had already been completed with the theater's new building in 2006. However, the originally planned inauguration in June 2007, coinciding with the finale of the opening season with Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," was canceled. The stage itself consists of three piers, each two meters deep and 14,5 meters wide, which rise up like waves to a height of 1,70 meters. Juan León's design of the piers, in a muted burgundy red, echoes the form and color of the theater's curved concrete sails. The theater's terraces and specially constructed platforms can accommodate 300 spectators per performance.
