Sicilian Garden

gardens and parks
The Sicilian Garden in Sanssouci Park evokes dreams of Italy. This masterpiece of historicist garden design captivates with its symmetry, star-shaped flowerbeds, and two pergolas. Among the subtropical plants are dwarf palms, New Zealand flax, male ferns, pampas grass, hostas, yuccas, and other potted plants, which, according to royal tradition, are sunk deep into the ground to simulate natural vegetation. The quatrefoil pool located along the central axis and the colossal replicas of antique Medici and Borghese vases express this longing for Italy.
