Weberstube Nowawes District Museum

The Weberhaus at Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 23 was built in 1752 by order of Frederick the Great. Since 1999, it has housed a small local history museum, established through the initiative of the Friends Association, the Evangelical Church Parish, and the urban renewal agency Stadtkontor, with the help of workers employed through job creation programs. Many Babelsberg residents supported the project with dedication and enthusiasm.
Two small rooms tell the story of the villages of Nowawes and Neuendorf, spanning over 100 years, of the arduous lives of the weavers and spinners, and of the villages' rise to become the largest industrial center in the Teltow district. The front room hints at the modest living conditions of the house's first inhabitants. A large loom dominates the space, and weaving equipment such as a spinning wheel, a winding wheel, and accessories like shuttles and bobbins document the tools of the trade.
