Much like the Havel River, Potsdam's diverse art scene winds its way through the city like a ribbon. Art and culture are inextricably linked to Potsdam, just like the Havel, which embraces the city, making it feel like an island. The Museum Barberini, the Potsdam Museum, the Kunstraum Potsdam, and the Museum FLUXUS+ in Schiffbauergasse are among the most important venues for experiencing art. But a stroll through the smaller galleries will also warm the hearts of art lovers.
The "Walk of Modern Art" complements the museum scene as an open-air gallery, making art along the river accessible to everyone. In this open-air gallery along the banks of the Havel River, artists explore the themes of path, water, and landscape in relation to their immediate surroundings. Nine very different artistic objects are on display.
The route leads from the Old Market Square with the Museum Barberini and the Potsdam Museum along the banks of the Old Canal, past Friendship Island, to the Schiffbauergasse area. Here you can see more sculptures, such as the imposing "Warrior" by Armando, as well as the Kunstraum Potsdam art space and the FLUXUS+ Museum. For tired feet but still wanting more, the "Culture Tram Line 93" from the Schiffbauergasse district to the Glienicke Bridge is a great option. Right on the riverbank is Villa Schöningen, which exhibits national and international art and displays further art in its inviting garden. The museum café also offers a welcome break for enjoying the art. For the return journey, a water taxi is recommended – at the foot of the Glienicke Bridge, it departs from here back to the city center and the Potsdam harbor.
