In addition, there are elegant villa districts and numerous sailing clubs right on the shore. And the nearest swimming spot is usually not far away. Some enjoy cult status, like the lido on Lake Wannsee. Many travelers are also amazed by the abundance of forests in this metropolis of millions. The Grunewald and the Berlin Forest extend almost to Berlin-Spandau.
Here you leave the Havel River to travel on the Spree River into Berlin's city center, or you can take a detour to Lake Tegel. There's hardly a more beautiful way to discover Berlin than from the water. Charlottenburg Palace, the new main train station, the government district, and Museum Island each have their own unique charm from the captain's perspective.
Beyond the Oberbaum Bridge, you gradually enter the green southeast of Berlin. Passing Treptower Park and Wuhlheide, you reach the easternmost point of your journey – Köpenick. This charming district is famous not only for its Captain, but also for its beautiful location on the Müggelsee lake.
There are two options for the return trip to Potsdam: One leads directly via the Teltow Canal through southern Berlin. The other leads via the Landwehr Canal (only navigable in this east-west direction!) through the multicultural Kreuzberg district and the Tiergarten, Berlin's largest inner-city park, continuing to Charlottenburg, where the canal meets the Spree River.
A boat license is required for carefree boating fun - generally for all motorboats in the city center, and for boats with an engine power of 3,69 kW or more outside the city.
