The bike tour around Lake Templin demonstrates how culture and nature go hand in hand in Potsdam. The ideal starting point for this leisurely ride is the Old Market Square. From the dome of St. Nicholas' Church, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the entire cityscape. Even from here, it becomes clear how closely the city is connected to the Havel River and its lakes.

Passing the main train station, the path leads along the shore of Lake Templin towards Caputh. Numerous small bathing spots invite you to linger. A detour to the Einstein House and Caputh Palace is highly recommended. The scientist Albert Einstein spent considerable time in this summer house and favored it as his residence during the last years he lived in Germany before emigrating to America. Caputh Palace, the oldest surviving palace in the Potsdam cultural landscape, dating back to the time of Frederick William, the Great Elector, brings over 350 years of history to life.

Before taking the ferry to Geltow, a rest along the riverbank path is recommended. Here you can observe amateur captains, recreational swimmers, and those simply enjoying the scenery.

The cycle path along the banks of the Havel River leads from Geltow back to Potsdam. Along the way, you'll pass the so-called airship port. As the name suggests, Count Zeppelin's airships landed here between 1911 and 1917. Zeppelins were also built here. In the 1920s, the city of Potsdam transformed the area into a land and water sports complex, a tradition that continues with its current use as an Olympic training center. From the airship port, the riverside path leads directly back to the city center.
