Circular hiking trail Ketzin/Havel - Paretz

The circular hiking trail between the fishing town of Ketzin/Havel and Paretz, the summer residence of Queen Louise and King Frederick William III of Prussia, is a journey through time.

The trail begins in the heart of Ketzin/Havel, at the tourist information office on Rathausstraße, and leads through the narrow streets and alleys of the old town. For centuries, life on and with the water has shaped the people of this Havel town. Along the beautifully landscaped Havel promenade, one can still feel the spirit of the fishing tradition.
The playground, located directly on the circular hiking trail, is extremely popular with young and old alike. In the immediate vicinity, at the Ketzin/Havel lido, you can take a refreshing dip in the Havel River during the summer months. The path leads along the dike beside the Havel. From here, you have a magnificent view of the unspoiled riverside vegetation until you reach Paretz. This planned yet picturesque village still exudes the royal reserve that made it such a popular summer retreat for the Prussian royal family. The castle's simple exterior is deceptive. The country estate is a gem of neoclassical interior architecture and definitely worth a visit. The same is true of the Paretz village church, located directly opposite the castle and open to the public. The castle's coach house contains a remarkable exhibition of historical carriages. A leisurely stroll through the village reveals further sights, such as the Gothic House, the old weigh house, and the fire station.
