Seven Lakes Tour: From bygone eras

The tour around the so-called Wannsee Island leads from the Kleiner Wannsee (Little Wannsee) through the Pohlsee to the Stölpchensee. It's worth noting that the settlement was first documented in 1299 and is considered Berlin's oldest preserved village center. Passing the Protestant church, built in 1859, the route continues through the Prinz-Leopold-Kanal (Prince Leopold Canal) to the Griebnitzsee. Take a break at the lovingly restored Söhnel shipyard with its beer garden. During the GDR era, Klein Glienicke was an East German enclave within West Berlin. To the left begins Babelsberg Palace Park with its palace; to the right is the hunting lodge and, beyond it, Kleinglienicke Palace. Passing under the Glienicke Bridge heading north, you'll have a view of the Church of the Redeemer in Sacrow. Crossing the former inner-German border, paddle on to Peacock Island. Upstream, you'll reach the Großer Wannsee (Great Wannsee) with its famous lido. Passing the lakeside promenade and the House of the Wannsee Conference, the route leads back.
